Frequently asked questions about Martingales

Why do you use a martingale?

A martingale is a strap that goes over your horse’s neck and attaches to the bottom of the girth. Attached to a martingale is a martingale fork. A martingale allows you to have more control while jumping. A martingale is therefore mainly used at jumping competitions.

How do I know the correct size of a martingale?

It is important that it is not too tight, but loose around the neck. There may certainly be movement, as long as the martingale itself, stays well in place. The straps of a breast harness do not have to be very tight but make sure they do not slide around too much.

How do you attach a martingale?

You attach the martingale to the neck using a leather strap with a buckle. You put this around your horse’s neck. The last point of attachment is to the rein. At the end of a martingale, there are two rings.

What brands of martingale are commonly sold?

These fine brands are mainly sold at Our Saddlery: Dy’on, Equipe, Harry’s Horse, and Passier. These are the most well-known brands.
